Frequently asked questions

I Have A Nickel Allergy, Is Your Jewellery Safe?

All our jewellery is nickel free. Our sterling silver is 925, our solid gold is nickel free, and our gold vermeil sits on a sterling silver base so contains no nickel. Our gold plated pieces use a brass base and are also nickel free. If you have particular allergy concerns, email us at hello@annalouoflondon.com before ordering and we can talk through the options.

How Long Will My Order Take To Arrive?

Your timeline depends on the piece. Items in our Ready to Ship collection are held in stock and dispatch the same working day if ordered before midday. Everything else is made to order in our London studio. Standard arrival is 10 to 14 working days from order, production and delivery included. If you need it sooner, our express option arrives in 5 working days, £15 per piece, added at checkout (production and delivery included). Express Production is charged per item, so if you would like more than one piece fast-tracked, please add it once for each piece. You will receive a tracking link by email as soon as your parcel leaves us.

What Is Your Return Policy?

Most of our pieces are personalised or made to order, which makes them non-returnable, in line with UK consumer law on custom-made goods. Ready to Ship items can be returned within 14 days of delivery if unworn and in original condition. If you believe your item is faulty, please contact us and we will arrange a return label for inspection. Return postage is at the customer's cost unless the item is faulty. Refunds are processed within 5 to 14 business days once we receive and inspect the returned item. These terms are in addition to your statutory rights as a consumer.

How Should I Care For My Jewellery?

Our jewellery is designed to be worn and loved, but a little care keeps it looking beautiful for years. Take pieces off before showering, swimming, or sleeping, and avoid contact with perfume, hairspray, sun cream and hand sanitiser as these can dull the finish. Store each piece separately in the pouch or box it arrived in so chains do not tangle and stones stay protected. For sterling silver, a gentle polish with a soft cloth after wear removes moisture and slows tarnishing. For solid gold, a warm soapy rinse and a dry with a lint-free cloth is all it needs. If anything ever needs a refresh or repair, get in touch.

How Do I Find My Ring Size?

The easiest way is to measure a ring you already wear that fits well. Measure the inside diameter in millimetres and match it against a UK ring size chart. For rings worn on a bent finger, size up by half a size for comfort. Fingers swell in warm weather and shrink in the cold, so measure at the end of the day when hands are at their natural size. Because every ring is made to order, we can craft yours in the exact size you need.

What Metals Do You Use?

We use four metal categories across the collection. Sterling silver, 925, nickel free, hallmarked in London where required. Solid gold in 9ct, 14ct or 18ct depending on the piece, in yellow, white or rose gold. Solid gold is the same metal all the way through and lasts a lifetime with normal care. Gold vermeil, a thick 2.5 micron layer of solid gold bonded to a sterling silver base. Because the base is sterling silver, our vermeil is nickel free and holds up well. Gold plated, a 0.5 micron layer of gold on either a brass base or a sterling silver base. Plated pieces are our most accessible option and last around 2 to 3 years with good care. Every piece is nickel free regardless of metal category. If you are unsure which is right for you, get in touch.

Can I Personalise A Piece?

Yes, and personalisation is what we do best. Names, initials, dates, coordinates, a favourite word, a handwritten message: most of our jewellery can be tailored to you. Every personalised piece is made to order in our London studio. During checkout you will see a personalisation field for the piece you have chosen. Take your time and check spelling carefully as personalised items cannot be returned or exchanged unless there is a manufacturing fault. If you want something truly bespoke, from a family crest to a custom design, email us and we will come back with a quote.

Can I Have A Piece Engraved?

Yes. We offer engraving on most of our pieces and can add names, initials, dates, coordinates or short phrases. Each product page shows whether engraving is available and how many characters fit comfortably. Choose your font at checkout and enter the exact text you want, paying close attention to spelling and capitalisation as engraved items cannot be returned. Engraving is made to order alongside your piece and does not add extra time. For bespoke engraving not offered on the product page, email us with what you have in mind and we will confirm what is possible and the cost.

What Is The Difference Between Gold Vermeil And Gold Plated?

Two things: base metal and thickness. Gold vermeil uses a sterling silver base with a 2.5 micron layer of solid gold bonded to it. Because the base is sterling silver, vermeil is nickel free and holds up for years with normal care. Gold plated uses either a brass base or a sterling silver base with a thinner 0.5 micron layer of gold. Plated pieces are more accessible in price and last around 2 to 3 years with good care. Both are lovely everyday options. Solid gold is the ultimate for longevity if budget allows.

Do You Offer Gift Wrapping?

Yes, and it is free on every order. Your jewellery arrives in our signature Anna Lou of London gift box with tissue paper and a pouch for each piece, ready to give. You can add a handwritten card message at checkout and choose to have it sent directly to the recipient without prices on the invoice. When planning a gift, standard arrival is 10 to 14 working days from order, production and delivery included. If you need it sooner, our express option arrives in 5 working days, £15 per piece, added at checkout (production and delivery included). Express Production is charged per item, so if you would like more than one piece fast-tracked, please add it once for each piece.

Are your necklaces shower-proof?

Sterling silver and solid gold pieces are shower and sweat resistant and won't tarnish with everyday wear. Gold vermeil will last longer if you keep it dry, though our 3-micron plating is built for daily use.

What chain lengths can I choose?

Standard chain length is 16-18 inches with a 2-inch extender. If you need a longer or shorter chain, email us at hello@annalouoflondon.com and we'll adjust it in the workshop before dispatch at no extra charge.
